Pacers Honor 3 with Joan E. Simons Educational Award


At the Inaugural Clevonte Lodge Bean Sprint Challenges Track Meet, the Bermuda Pacers Track Club honored three of their own former outstanding athletes with the Joan E. Simons Educational Award.


This award was named after Pacers Head Coach Cal Simons' mother. Mrs. Simons served as the club's first treasure. A position she held for over 12 years.

 

This year's recipients were three outstanding junior athletes that represented the club at numerous oversee events. They also represented Bermuda at a Carifta Games. These awards were made possible by the generous sponsorship of AIG and Skyport Limited and the club is extremely grateful for their support.

 

The first recipient to receive an award was Jezhari Talbot. Talbot started the club at the age of 13 years. She was predominantly a 400,800 and 1500-meter runner. Talbot is presently studying Finance at Queen Mary University in the UK. Before going off to college Talbot attended the Berkeley Institute.

 

The second recipient to receive this award was Sanaa Rae Morris. Before going off to University Morris attended IMG Academy. She is predominantly a 200 and 400-meter runner. She is presently studying Media, Film, and Production at Howard University. Morris ran with the Bermuda Pacers Track Club for 10 years. She began running with the club at age 7.

 

The final Recipient to receive an award was Sancho Smith. Smith began running with the club at age 9. At the Russell E. Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet, Smith won three consecutive outstanding age group divisions. He is a 400 and 800-meter specialist. Smith is presently studying Account and Finance at Clayton State College. Before heading off to school, Sancho attended Saltus Grammar.
