The Berkeley Institute defended
their Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Track and Field
Championships convincingly at the Dame Flora Duffy South Field
Stadium at the National Sports Center. Berkeley were runaway winner as
they collected 665 points in the win, Warwick Academy finished a distant
second with 397.5 points with Saltus Grammar School rounding out the
top three with 334 points.
Recent CARIFTA Games qualifiers
dominated the Under 16 Girls Division. Saltus Grammar School's Jaeda
Grant was the top performer in the Division capturing three Gold Medals
in the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m races. Berkeley's Lashee Jones won double
Gold in the 100 and 200-meter events while finishing fourth in the Long
Jump. Schoolmate Kalila Daley finished in second to Jones in the 100 and
200 meters while also finishing in second in the 400 meters. Tatiana
Sousa from Warwick Academy won the Javelin event while finishing second
in the Discus and fourth in the Shot Put.
The Berkeley
Institute's Kyah Richardson was named Champion Boy in the Under 16
Division. Richardson was victorious in the Long Jump and finished second
in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters. Other top performers in
the Division were Zaki Gibbons-Deshields from CedarBridge Academy, Luke
Horan from Warwick Academy, Somersfield Academy's Jackson Langley, and
Saltus' Malik Paynter. Gibbons-Deshields leaped his way to Gold in the
High Jump and also won the Javelin. Paynter won the 100 and 200-meter
sprint double while Langley outran everyone in the 1500 and 3000-meter
races. Horan finished second to Gibbons-Deshields in the Javelin and won
the Discus event.
Chinae Dickenson-Desilva from Berkeley earned
sprinting bragging rights in the Over 16 Girls Division by winning the
100, 200, and 400 meters. Warwick Academy's Adriana Argent finished
second to Dickenson-Desilva in the 400 meters but then went on the win
the 800 and 1500-meter events. Schoolmate Daria Desmond won the 3000
meters and finished second to the Argent in the 1500 and 800 meters.
CedarBridge Academy's Dominique Brown won the Javelin and Shot Put while
finishing fourth in the Discus. Berkeley's I'Aura Golding was a double
winner in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.
Warwick's Jake Smith
ran away with the Over 16 Boys title after winning the 800, 1500, and
3000-meter races. Schoolmate and fellow CARIFTA qualifier Norre Robinson
doubled up wins in the 100 and 200 meters. Matthew Banner also
collected points for Warwick with three second-place finishes in the
three throwing disciplines.
