The Bermuda National Athletics
Association in partnership with the Bermuda Tourism Authority announced
the Cross-Country National Championships featuring the Bermuda
Challenge.
The challenge is an invitational for American
Secondary School Athletes. Local organizers are excited about the
opportunity for competition, sharing Bermuda culture, and establishing
new relationships (Competition, Culture, & Camaraderie).
Their
addition to this field will help to bring out stellar performances from
our local athletes. The Cross-Country National Championships
will be held at the beautiful Botanical Gardens with the first race
starting at 8:30 am.
The event is free of charge and open to the public.
The BNAA is inviting everyone to come and support our athletes. This
event will feature races in the following categories: Under 10 years,
U12, U14, U17, U20, Open, Masters, and Senior categories.
Athletes to watch:
Under 10 Boys
- Adrian Meyers has placed 1st in every cross-country meet this year
and is looking to finish the season undefeated in his age group.
Under 10 Girls
- Yara Muhammad, has placed 1st in every cross country meet this year
also and she is looking to finish the season undefeated in her age
group.
In the Under 12 Division
- Sukanya Jobson, is hoping to end the season as National Champion but
she is facing major competition from Jasmine Reid-Rubain and Zaya Zuill.
In the Under 12 Boys' Division - Ronan Davidge, and As'ad Muhammad are contending to be National Champion.
Under 14 Girls Division - Will see a strong competition between Kelise Wade and Rhiana Robinson for the title of Cross-Country National Champ.
Under 14 Boys' Division
- Will be led by Chavi Pacheco who is a two-sport athletic star (Track
and Field and Football) who was undefeated in U12 last year and is
trying to accomplish the same feat in the older age bracket.
Under 17 Ladies Division
- Will feature 2022 Carifta athletes Amaris Munya and Jaeda Grant who
will battle each other for the title of National Champion, but they will
face tough competition for a medal on the day as America striders Sonya
Johnson - Central HS, Colorado, Ava Neretic - West Orange, NJ, and Jade
Golightly - Central HS, Colorado will make their international debut.
The Under 17 Men's Division
- Will see Khari Sharrieff and Jake Smith. Both are in excellent
running form and look to have their focus on the local cross-country
series and will also try to make the podium against Americans Yishai
Trowbridge - Central HS, Colorado, Mark Suardi - Washington DC, and
Fidelis Osunkwo - Bronx, NY.
In the Under 20 Boys' Division - stars Jayson Simons and Max Ried will be challenged to be National Champions.
As
always we have the Open and Senior Divisions which are expected to be
competitive and exciting as athletes such as Tony Riker, Donna-Mae
Arorash, Edwina Arorash, Florence Sharpe, Sean Kelly, Rose-Anna Hoey,
Wentworth Tucker, Sara Thompson, Rebecca Shepard, and Oladule Oyawa
are some of the participants expected to be strong candidates to run
away with the Cross Country title.
