Two records were broken at the
Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Track and Field
Qualifiers at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports
Center.
Zydon Lightbourne Furbert started the day by breaking
the Over 13 Boys 200-meter Record with an impressive time of 22.54
seconds. The Warwick Academy student would then finish the day by
breaking the Over 13 Boys 400-meter Record with a time of 52.75 seconds.
He also finished as the top Qualifier in the 100 meters.
Leydi
Raynor and Jasmine Reid-Rubaine from Saltus claimed first and second in
the Under 12 Girls Long Jump while Chaz Edmead, Jace Postlethwaite won
Gold in the Under 12 and Under 13 Boys Long Jump events. Jordan Williams
claimed two Golds by outjumping everyone in the Over 13 Triple and High
Jump.
The Whitney Institute has kept within distance and hopes a
successful day on the Track at the finals will give them a chance to win
the championships. Hasim Ming showed his versatility by winning the
Under 12 Boys Turbo Javelin. Ming will also be one of the favorites in
the 800 and 1500 meters next Tuesday.
Whitney did well in the
throwing events with Jacob Furtado finishing second in both the Discus
and Shot, while Ariah Peets won the Turbo Javelin event. Bermuda High
School's impressive medal haul on Day One has them lying in third place
in the combined male and female point total. Milan Gibbons-Thomas was
victorious in the Open Girls Triple Jump.

Washington won their respective Shot Put competitions while
Avery-Paiva-Lowe won Gold in the Turbo Javelin The championships will conclude with more field events and all of the Track Finals next Tuesday, May 14th.
